I have a childhood memory of a big burger being held up by a guy. We would go to Shoneys big boy burgers as a family to eat. It is a good memory of my parents together with me and my brother. Now I am hungry.

  • Julie Dascoli-Yanop

Since I am a New Yorker – I am going to say I LOVEEEE the apple that pops up at Shea Stadium (Now Citifield) every time a home run is hit by a player on the Mets. GO METS!

  • Virginia D

Fake foods….. bababa McDonalds I’m loving it.

  • DM

Artist Carl Warner. Warner sketches out the scenes first and then uses pins and super glue to hold together his creations, which take a few days each to complete. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a8fbe37eda4afc310bb09bc4f66a0f2aef6b84b6912e82b7434748fd53713d2e.jpg Amazing creativity!

    • Karen T

      That IS really creative!

    • Very good.

    • Jenny F. A. McMillen

Oh yeah! Seen an article of his works once. Very amazing what scenescapes the artist could create with produce and other foodstuffs.

  • edeliz

The Green Giant and his little buddy, Sprout!

  • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

Krab. It looks somewhat like crab; it tastes a little like crab. But it’s not crab. It was even on the menu (with a “K”!) in my new favorite Thai/Japanese restaurant.

    • Karen T

We served ‘crab’ salad in the cafeteria at a hospital I worked at. I have no idea what that sruff was. I don’t eat seafood but I sure wasn’t going to try that. A lot of people like it though. Lol

      • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

        It was probably Krab.

    • Denise N.

I say! The nerve of that restaurant to serve fake crab!! Soooo wrong! Lol

      • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

I thought they just spelled it wrong on the menu but when I tasted it as part of my plate of sashimi, I knew it wasn’t real crab. My husband used to buy it from the supermarket until I made him stop. Krab. LOL

  • Jan Karl Arcayos

Fake food eh? Well I love hamburgers, I can 5-6 hamburgers a day. Especially when it’s McDonalds.

  • Jason Pike

The fake bowl of fruit that sat on moms coffee table in the living room back in the 80s.

  • Brian Vaughn

My favorite fake food is salad. Of course salad is about the realest food there actually is, but I eat it so much people always say I eat like a bird or a rabbit. Guess real food nowadays is burgers haha. Love my salads though!

  • bhjustice

I love cherry turnovers, except of late there are no cherries in the cherry turnovers, just pureed cherries so that could be cherry flavored “I don’t really want to know what it is.”

  • Timothy Mccollum

My favorite food is the space food at Cape Carnival it little food taste like larger portions.

  • Barbara Comeaux

Circus Peanuts! Not a peanut, can’t get them at a circus, so very nutritionally wrong but tastes oh, so right!

  • Carol Miller

My favorite fake food is Velveeta Cheese. I know it’s not real cheese but is is so delicious and useful. You can microwave it and pour it over vegetables or melt it for a dip with chips. You can eat it by itself or make grilled cheese sandwiches. I really don’t care if it is considered “fake” food because to me it is the real thing. I never intend to stop using it.

  • my grandma had glass fruit i.e. grapes in a bowl so pretty. she loved her decorative pieces.

  • Rebecca lee

My favourite fake food is champagne. It is only classed as legitimate champagne if it is produced in the champagne region of France, anything other is considered sparkling wine. However as long as it is alcoholic and tastes good, then it’s all the same to me, lol!!

  • Stephanie Torralba

    McRibs! Yum!

  • CZ

Fav fake food… Burger King. Every time I’ve tried it, I’ve gotten ill. I’ve occasionally tried their “new” items, they’re still bad!

  • Billy Butterworth

  • Erin Estilette

This little wooden carving of a watermelon slice that has been on my Mom’s coffee table since I was little. It’s so cute, and my memories of the time when it first appeared on the table are so vivid.

  • Sandra

I can tell you what my most hated fake food is. Chicken fajitas. Fajitas are beef skirt. At most they can be called fajita “styled” chicken. But not chicken fajitas. Yeah. major Pet Peeve. LOL 😉

  • Tbag

My favorite fake food is definitely gum! It’s not really food because you don’t swallow it, but it tricks your mind into thinking that you are eating food so its nice to chew one when I’m hungry but dont have time to eat. Plus it gets rid of bad breath and also tastes good.

  • Linda Gagnier

    Sausages BBQ

  • Judy Burba McGarvey

My favorite fake food is cabbage. Not the garden variety, but the cash!

  • Langevin Christina

Galvaude au canard confit et ognion

It’s Cool Whip that fluffy sweet mystery concoction that is mostly man made food chemicals but I’ve been eating it on pies, fruit, hot chocolate and ice cream since I was a kid. No cow was ever manhandled in the production of Cool Whip!

  • Diane Lane

Instant pudding is fast, easy and not bad tasting if you eat it right away.

  • Laura Mihaela

    Whipped cream

  • rose morgan

Fake lobster in a seafood salad.

  • Denise N.

My favorite fake food are the displays in the windows of Hawaii’s Okazu-yas! For those wondering what an Okazu-ya is; it is a shop that serves japanese delicacies like grilled fish, fried chicken, roasted pork or duck, salted duck eggs, and other such fare. Their window displays of the dishes purchased ala carte style sometimes look better than the real dish! Shiny broth, bright sauces, green veggies, and hearty servings. Even the fake bento boxes look exceptional. It’s a shame it’s all plastic, paint, and gloss.

  • Marce McHone

Lately my favorite fake food is cream cheese flavored whipped cream, its just enough to tease my brain into thinking im eating desert! 🙂 <3

  • Jessica Neiweem

This is the question I was born to answer. I love all fake food! When I was a kid, I used to love playing with plastic play food, especially those that looked realistic and had labels like those on real products. I also liked playing with Barbies just so I could play with their little fake food and dishes and pretend they ran a restaurant. I loved their food so much that I kept it all, even after I gave away the Barbies! Unfortunately, I did end up giving away the plastic play food; I regretted that decision so much as an adult that I went on eBay to see if I could find any of it. The good news: I did find most of it, and then some! My eBay research led me to find a Japanese toy manufacturer that specializes in hyper-realistic Barbie-sized replicas of American and Asian food specialties, so I not only replenished my supply of the play food from my childhood, but also started a brand-new collection of food minis! I am a bit obsessed with these minis to the point that I have them all in a display cabinet in my house. But hey, everyone collects something!

I love real peanut butter, but sometimes I like the taste of the fake stuff!

  • Sowmya

My favourite food is mock chicken also called vegetarian chicken, which is made of Soy. I am a vegetarian and I use it for Biryani and call it as chicken Biryani. First time I made it for a get together dinner. My Aussie friends loved it so much that one of the girl asked me ‘can you share your recipe for chicken biryani. The chicken is tasting so good’. When I told her that it’s
not chicken, she didn’t believe it.

  • Paul Clément

My favourite fake food is the imitation crab meat that comes in sticks you can take apart. They resemble the meat you get from crab legs and surprisingly have a similar taste and texture. I know it’s not the real thing but dipped in a bit of seafood sauce, they are quite tasty and they sure pass the test with me. I love them! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8173ca7fcbf844b2b19e334cf56ac0fe46ec17982d84aafaa773d413de24486d.jpg

  • Ray Ayala

I love eating boca oroducts made of soy. Boca burgers, boca cheese, and boca pepperoni taste gourmet. The boca burgers and cheese combine taste just like a real cheeseburger without raising your cholesterol levels, since they are plant based. And for a real vegetarian pizza, it is hard to outdo a fake pizza using boca pepperoni and boca cheese.

  • Darrell Small

I’ve always liked the donut from holy moley donut shop

  • My favorite fake food would be mud pies!! I loved making and “eating” mud pies!! When I was little, we use to play in the dirt and mud with sand box toys. One toy was a flat round bowl the shape of a pie plate. We used to make our mom dozens of mud pies all summer long. now that I am an adult my nieces and nephews love to use the same toy to make the mud pies that my sisters and I “eat” religiously every chance we get.

  • Noel Stewart

Instant mashed potatoes are my favorite FAKE food. Just mix them with plenty of butter and you will not know they are artificial. And if you are taking them to a dinner party, just mash in a REAL potato to make them lumpy. The guests will praise you as they exclaim, “I KNOW these are real, they have lumps!”

  • Deb

My favorite fake food is the huge apple and pear that decorates the top of my china cabinet. They are both about a foot tall and wide. They’re very unusual and I’ve had them a long time.

  • Jan Clark

My favourite fake food has to be the fruit that my mum had in a bowl in the middle of our table. She would dust it every other day and anytime I see this on telly or around it always reminds me of my mum who is almost 83 and mum & dad will celebrate their 61st Anniversary. And yes they are still in love just like the day they met. 🙂 🙂

Recently a supermarket was opened near my home. It is very big with food court inside it. There is a huge display of all kinds of cheese from top to bottom in a closed glass cupboard. At first I was thinking that those pieces of cheese are real but they are fake, looks real. This is one of famous supermarket in Canada. Actually all fake fruits looks real and beautiful. My favorite fake fruits are grapes. Whenever I visit the dollar store the grapes look real and colors look fresh as fresh ones.

Fake wedding cake. People use for pics to save money on the wedding.

  • Richard Vargas

My favorite fake food is the lucite bunch of grapes which were everywhere in the 1970’s. They were huge glass like orbs, secured with wire to a thick branch of grape vine, with grape leaves added for effect. I always thought they were so beautiful. The one we had consisted of purple and violet “grapes”. The way they looked when illuminated was magical.

  • Teresa Rojas

For many years my mother had had a fruit basket as a centerpiece on the dining room table, obviously since it’s been there for years they are fake fruits. But I love them because it’s a piece of home!

  • 77giggles

I love lil Sprout from the Green Giant commercial! He is adorable!

  • Natania

Have you seen the giant Frisch’s Big Boy statue that stands outside of the Frisch’s restaurant? He has his arm in the air with his hand holding a tray, my favorite fake food is the giant big boy that is on the tray. As long as I can remember, every time we went to Frisch’s I would run up to that giant Big Boy statue and stand by it and stare at that big boy sandwich he was holding. I still love that thing!

  • Jennifer Schneider

I would say my favorite “fake food” would have to be the photos of food for advertisements. Using inedible products they mimic the food ending up with a delicious and perfect looking setup.

  • Jan Clark

My favorite fake foods are Bob the tomato and Larry the cucumber from the “Veggie Tales” books. I have most of the full collection and are the go to books that I read to and with my grandson. The books are engaging and each one has a “moral” to each story. The books teach children about topics like honesty or friendship and other positive messages.

This is actually quite an exciting topic for me. If you could say that about fake food, haha. Well I am unsure whether or not many of you have heard about this yet or not, but it was a bit of a viral sensation not long ago, and given the opportunity now, it is a great time to discuss it. Rice. Yes, Rice. Did you guys know that a percentage of rice that comes out of China, is actually made out of plastic that is cut into the shape and form of actual rice grains, and then shipped all across the world. Also, eating just two bowls of this ‘plastic’ rice, would be the equivalent of eating an entire plastic bag (similar in size to a grocery bag that you would get at your local supermarket). This ‘plastic’ rice has been discovered in many countries across the world, and it has certainly opened up the eyes of many people. I hope that not only this ‘plastic’ rice, is good enough of an answer for this question, as well as , that the people reading these comments, would either share this information or discuss it with your loved ones. No one wants to lose someone to something so unexpected and bizarre. God bless you all, and Thank you #Vindale for this great opportunity. You guys continue to lead the way for the market research industry! Kudos to you. Enjoy your summer fellow Vindaliens. 😛

When I order iced tea someplace I always go for the ‘fake sugar’ to sweeten it and so I guess my favorite fake food is that powdery stuff!

  • Play dough. A company invents and sells colorful, lumps of dough. Kids all across the world create “its pretend” treats and try to force their parents to eat their smelly concoctions. I’m not a parent, so I think its hilarious.

  • Danielle Clark

My favorite fake food was the feast presented in the Scooby Doo movie, taking place on spooky island. It consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes… anything you can think of. The fake sausages were brutal when they “came to life”!

  • David Allen

The fake grapes that my Grandmother always had in a basket on her table. They were so corny and old fashioned and we use to make fun of them. She just laughed at us and said they were there because she liked them. Now if I am in any store and see those funny grapes I think of her. I have great memories of my Grandmother and thank you to all of the companies that still make those fake grapes!

  • Jenny F. A. McMillen

My favourite one would be the Big Apple! No, not New York City! The one in Colborne, Ontario, Canada at HWY 401 and Percy Street. There’s a great big apple-shaped building that you can climb up to see the horizon on top of. They also make their famous apple pies and other apple dishes, along with some children attractions. Fun place to hang out at.

I likee Chinese food, especially ginger beef and lemon chicken! Ordered it and it tasted like ginger beef and lemon chicken but discovered that it indeed was not made from beef or chicken! It was made from soy. It contained no meat. The restaurant apparently was a vegan restaurant. Why would a vegan restaurant even consider calling it ginger BEEF and lemon CHICKEN!
