  • If we’re talking about stinks and not just smells, then I got to say gasoline. It smells horrible but good at the same time.

  • Julie Dascoli-Yanop

i LOVE the smell of a freshly cut lawn.

  • Tawny

I love the smell of rain, it makes you feel clean..

  • DM

Rain has to be the best of all smells. Nature has so much to offer. There is nothing like the fresh smell of rain and the sound of rain. It brings it all for nothing. It costs nothing to enjoy nature.

  • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

My father owned a Texaco gas (and automotive repair) station for 25 years. I grew up smelling gasoline, and I always loved the smell of it. My dad passed away about 20 years ago. I know it sounds silly but whenever I smell gasoline, I think of him.

    • Richard Vargas

That’s not silly, that’s sweet. Now I feel bad about my answer. Your answer reminds you of your dad, my answer smells like ink mixed with stripper sweat.

      • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

        LOL. That’s hilarious! Thanks, Richard.

  • edeliz

My favorite stink came from a verbal stink my usually reserved mom raised when a busy-body mom of an old school mate tried to bully me. That woman never made that mistake again!

  • Sue W.

I love the smell of fresh picked basil from my garden but everytime I bring it in the house, my husband holds his nose and said that stinks! Lol

  • Carol Miller

Old Books. When I pick up a really old book with yellowed pages there is a certain stale, musty smell that emanates from it. The reason I love it is because it indirectly tells me this book has been read and reread many times. I like to think about all of the possible people who have touched this book and possibly been entertained or learned from it. Give me the smell of an old book any day of the week.

    • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

      Great answer, Carol!

      • Carol Miller

Thanks, Diane. I think I spend 1/2 my life with my nose in a book.

        • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

Good! More people should do that! BTW, I’ve been unpacking boxes since last Sunday. Yesterday, I found my grandmother’s “learn to read German” type book. The copyright says 1886! My grandfather emigrated from Germany so I guess she wanted to learn the language.

          • Carol Miller

OMG. 1886 wow that is over 100 years old.

            • Diane Krumenaker Eugenio

Yep. I’ve always kept it because it was grandma’s and she lived with us the whole time I was growing up.

I love the “stink” of a new car. That’s probably not a good thing since it’s probably caused by chemicals and glue. We used to have a pop-up camper growing up. I loved the musty smell when we first opened it up for the season to air it out. I knew it meant a summer filled with camping and beach trips. Now whenever I catch a musty smell like that I always think back to the first day of summer.

My favorite stink is the stink of kimchi. What a wonderful food: fresh Napa cabbage, daikon radish, ginger, garlic, and scallions, all soaked and fermented for a week in a briny, spicy, fishy broth! Nothing is better than the fishy, garlicky stench of a freshly cracked open jar of homemade kimchi. And everyone within a two-mile radius better agree, because that yummy stench spreads!

I have a bottle of perfume in the bathroom cabinet which has been open for about 2 years. It’s one of my favourite brands but I think that the smell has changed over time, and it now smells like a cross between cat wee and nettles. However for some reason I still like it and although i wouldn’t wear it, I feel compelled to smell it every time I see the bottle.

  • About 2 weeks ago, I had a really strong odor to my urine. I called my doctor thinking I had a UTI. Went to the appointment and gave a sample. My nurse asked if I could be pregnant. I told her that I was told over 16 years ago I can’t have kids. She said ok lets test anyway. Turns out a pure miracle happened and I am 5 weeks pregnant!! I was in so much shock that I asked my doc if she was lying like 5 times. She said doctors’ pregnancy tests don’t lie. I am still in shock and so excited after contemplating adoption and surrogacy options I actually won’t need them. So my favorite stink is my strong urine that let me know I am going to be a mom!!

Myself – after a day of doing work outside in the yard! Sometimes I might get stinky working hard in the house getting the place cleaned up too though, and nothing can be more satisfying than finally being able to step into the shower to wash the sweat and dirt off! Smelling the fresh soap as it bubbles up to clean my skin, and circles the drain to go down and away, is sooo refreshing and I am grateful.
