Member of the month – Erika F.

Howdy, folks!

This month’s member, Erika, lives by two mottos: “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” and “Don’t ever give up on anything in life because it can only get better.” She’s also mother of an adorable little guy named De’Marco.

What’s your most marked characteristic?
I laugh and smile a lot and I have distinctive loud laugh. I’m full of laughter and joy all of the time.

What do you most value in your friends?
I value honesty in friends because that means they will always be true to you and themselves at all times.

What’s your dream of happiness?
My dream is to hopefully own my own funeral home because I am a funeral director and get out of debt to pay off my bills.

Who or what is your favorite author or book?
Silhouette.

What’s your favorite TV show?
My favorite television show is Blue Mountain State. It’s too funny.

Who are your heroes in real life?
My favorite hero is myself because I’ve defeated myself in so many capacities that I wouldn’t be the person I am without going through anything. My own personality/strength is my hero. I would have ended up a statistic if it wasn’t for my inner strength and belief of god.

Who are your favorite heroes of history?
My favorite hero in history is President Barak Obama…..He was the man who persuaded the world to believe that he could make a difference regardless of the color of his skin. He convinced the world (liberals, republicans, democrats) that he could change the world and by being the first minority/african american president in history he is making a difference. Even though he is the 44^th president it tells me that racism isn’t like it used to be .

What’s your favorite time period in history?
The civial rights movements……….All men are supposed to be created equally regardless of the color of their skin or the content of their character.

Member of the month – Kammie W.

Howdy, folks!

This month’s member, Kammie, works about 45 hours a week in the trucking industry, volunteers in her spare time and lives by the motto: “If the good outweighs the bad stick with it!” Also? She happens to be the mother of a blue-eyed cutie named Michaela.

Current city: Tennessee

Kids: 4-year-old daughter and a son that would have been 7 in April.

Pets: 1 dog

Favorite flower: Tulip

Favorite color: Purple

Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
Spiderman, he’s just so cool. [And] Wonder Woman of course.

What’s your most marked characteristic?
Honesty. I feel like it’s important to be honest with your friends and family even if it’s not always what they want to here.

What’s the quality you most like in a man?
Sense of humor. Looks fade but if you can laugh together you can live together.

What do you most value in your friends?
Loyalty. You put yourself out there when you bring people into your life and you have to feel like they
can be trusted to have your back at all costs.

Who or what is your favorite author or book?
Iyanla Vanzant, Yesterday I Cried… it’s a beautiful book about a strong woman and her path to success.

Who are your favorite heroines of history?
Rosa Parks she was the definition of strong woman!

What’s your dream of happiness?
To see my daughter happy and successful is all I could ever dream of.

Member of the month – Sean W.

Hey everybody!

We can’t tell you how thrilled we’ve been with your submissions! Thanks to everyone who has sent in their bios, photos and questionnaire answers. It’s been a lot of fun seeing all the faces and personalities that make up our cool community – keep ‘em coming!

Now, without further ado, we’d like to introduce you to a cool, creative lady named Sean: an entrepreneur, mother of five AND a puppetmaker! Hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as we did.

READ SEAN’S BIO
This month’s member, Sean, charmed us with her humorous take on life, business and “puppet people.”

Where were you born?
Oh! [I was born ] in Sioux Falls, South Dakota…yes people are actually from there…
How did you get your name?
My grandfather delivered me and I was named by my mother after Errol Flynn’s son Sean. I was raised in Michigan, mostly Detroit.
Do you have any kids?
Marriage has never agreed with me but having children did…yes I was married. I have five children, four girls and one boy. Well, now they are grown adults from fifty one to thirty one. I have bunches of grands and great grands. They are scattered from Hawaii to Florida.
How did you get into puppetmaking?
In 1984 [I] started a new business. I have met people from all over the world with all kinds of businesses and interests. What started as a means to earn a living ended up giving me wonderful experiences. My puppets are all over the world … some my youngest daughter took on the mission field. The most positive story about puppets that I can remember is the time a teacher bought a puppet and told me later one of her students that could not read used her puppet and the puppet read very well. Of course there are many neat stories like that.
Why puppets?
Puppet can be used in many positive ways and I teach solo puppetry, not ventriloquism. I like to put puppets into hands of children as well as adults and senior citizens. Puppets break down walls and help shy people and aggressive people reach out to others.
Why did you retire?
I [got] tired of people talking to me in silly puppet voices. After a while I found myself ducking behind tables, chairs, people, walls, animals, refrigerators, and other inanimate objects just trying to avoid people with annoying puppet voices.
What are you up to now?
I am semi retired at present and enjoy hanging out at a senior center … the great news is that I love going there because now I am learning to to draw and paint. The reason that I like it so much is that the paintings make no noise and if someone does come with an irritating voice I can hide behind my painting.
